Certas Energy brings cleaner burning GTL fuel to Sussex

In response to a growing demand for practical solutions to help reduce emissions, Certas Energy, the UK’s largest independent supplier of fuels and lubricants, has extended its supply of GTL Fuel to its Horsham depot, providing customers across Sussex with access to a cleaner burning alternative to diesel.

The availability of GTL at Horsham adds to Certas Energy’s existing distribution network for GTL Fuel in Eastham, Ashford and the Peel Ports bunker site in Liverpool. Part of the paraffinic family of fuels, GTL Fuel has improved combustion properties inside standard diesel engines, helping to reduce harmful emissions such as Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM). One of the biggest benefits is that the fuel can be used as a drop-in solution for diesel engines without the need for expensive engine modifications or changes to infrastructure.  Readily biodegradable, the fuel disperses easily, to make it safer and easier to handle, especially in areas where there could be a risk of contamination.

Certas Energy has been pioneering the use of GTL Fuel in the UK as part of a strategic agreement with Shell since 2016. So far, Certas Energy has sold millions of litres of the fuel in the UK to customers including construction, haulage, local councils and utilities businesses as well as high profile brands such Brakes Group.

Richard Billington, Regional Director for the South East at Certas Energy explained: “Following the positive responses we’ve had from customers using GTL Fuel so far, we’re delighted to be extending our national network to enable us to locally supply

businesses across Sussex who are looking to reduce emissions and improve their environmental credentials. Businesses who rely on diesel for their everyday operations have an important role to play in tackling air pollution, and cleaner burning alternative fuels are key to powering the transition to low emission mobility.

As a responsible energy supplier, we have been working with the government and local councils to help raise awareness of the benefits of alternative fuels in the UK and we’ll continue to support businesses reduce their emissions for a cleaner, safer and healthier future for us all.”

The announcement about the availability of the fuel at the Horsham depot was made today at the inaugural Certas Energy Clean Air Conference, held at the Port Lympne Hotel in Hythe. The conference highlighted concerns around levels of air pollution in the South East and delivered practical advice on how businesses can help reduce emissions by making smarter fuel choices. Over 50 delegates from the transport, construction and marine sectors attended the one-day event, which featured speakers from Kent County Council, Kent University and the Road Haulage Association.
