Britain needs more energy and lower emissions - a fact that the government has long been trying to tackle with initiatives such as the introduction of Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZs) in cities across the country. The truth is, the UK will not comply with legal limits for air quality until 2025 and in London until 2030.

Certas Energy - the UK’s leading independent supplier of fuel and lubricants - is hosting a one-day Clean Air Conference at Herringham Hall in Regent’s Park, London on Tuesday 13th November to champion the environmental benefits of alternative fuels and explore ways businesses can help improve air quality both in the capital as well as across the UK.

Alternative fuels represent a real and immediate solution to cleaning up Britain’s air quality problem while maintaining business productivity and profitability. Yet there is confusion amongst businesses around the benefits of alternative fuels and their role in reducing emissions.

The Certas Energy Clean Air Conference will highlight the availability of alternative fuels, deliver practical advice on how businesses can reduce harmful emissions. Results of independent research into the current alternative fuels landscape will be revealed with the launch of Certas Energy’s The Alternative Guide to Navigating the New Energy Mix

Certas Energy is the exclusive provider in the UK, of a cleaner burning alternative to diesel - Shell GTL Fuel. Part of the paraffinic family of fuels, Shell GTL Fuel lowers emissions of Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) and can be used as a direct replacement for conventional diesel without the need for engine modifications.  The conference will include highlights about how replacing standard diesel or gas oil with Shell GTL helps lower businesses emissions.

Key speakers confirmed so far include:

  • Ines Lopez, Climate Reality Leader at the Climate Reality Project
  • Colin Snape, Deputy Policy Director at the Road Haulage Association
  • Rebecca Kite, Environment Policy Manager at the Freight Transport Association
  • Moussa Baraka, Project Coordinator at Shell
  •  Katrina McDonnell, Head of Specialty Fuels at Certas Energy

Katrina McDonnell, Head of Specialty Fuels and Services at Certas Energy and Chair of the Clean Air Conference said, “Research shows that that the 69% of businesses in construction, transport and the public sector are considering switching to alternative fuels within the next 12 month period. Our second Clean Air Conference is a fantastic opportunity for companies with fuel requirements in Greater London to hear the facts on alternative fuels first-hand, talk to an expert panel of speakers about how to tackle harmful emissions and share challenges and solutions with a variety of businesses across sectors and business types.”

“With tighter clean air regulation coming into force, it’s clear that businesses cannot stand still when it comes to transitioning to a low emission future, and we’re looking forward to speaking with delegates about the range of solutions that can make an immediate difference to air quality."
